Types of Depression

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Shezz P Depression is one of the most common mental illnesses with 10-15% of people suffering from depression at some stage in their lifetime. The general symptoms of depression include irritability, difficulty to concentrate, feelings of guilt or helplessness, reduced appetite, anxiety, loss of interest in activities and personal appearance, difficulty sleeping, difficulty getting up in the morning, constant tiredness, lack of energy, changes in weight and headaches. Most people are aware of common depression, however depression has different types which I have summarised below: Major Depression Major depression is the most common form of depression and most people will probably know somebody that suffers from it. Major depression will have the symptoms listed above. Depression symptoms may vary from person to person so not everyone will suffer all of the symptoms. The person will lack interest in most activities and be saddened with the thought that they will never pull out of these feelings and will always remain in this hopeless state. Of course the more the person thinks this way the more depressed they become. Atypical Depression Atypical depression is slightly different from major depression. Someone suffering from Atypical depression will not always be depressed but will sometimes have feelings of happiness and elation. Symptoms are similar to major depression and include weight change, fatigue, oversleeping and overeating. Sufferers believe that their moods are controlled by outside events such as praise, attention, success. Atypical depression episodes can last for month and some people may suffer from it forever. Psychotic Depression People suffering from Psychotic depression will imagine they hear or see things that aren’t actually there. They may hear voices or sounds and see visions that don’t exist to anyone but them. These hallucinations are more common to someone suffering from schizophrenia. A person with Psychotic depression has hallucinations that are frightening and threatening, negative sounds and images. Dysthymia Dysthmyia is a condition that sufferers don’t even know they have depression, it is just a daily part of their lives and always has been. People suffering from Dysthmyia are people that are simply sad, blue, always depressed but for them it is completely normal and are not aware of it. They go through life feeling unimportant, frightened, dissatisfied and simply don’t enjoy life. Post Partum or Post Natal Depression Depression that occurs either during or within a year after pregnancy is called perinatal depression. Perinatal depression is a very common form of depression and a large number of women will experience it. This type of depression can sometimes be hard to diagnose as there are a lot of changes going on within our bodies during and after pregnancy anyway. Some signs of perinatal depression are tiredness, changes in body weight, emotional changes and problems sleeping, but these also occur during pregnancy without necessarily having depression. Manic or Bipolar Depression Manic depression can be defined as an emotional disorder characterized by changing mood shifts from depression to mania which can sometimes be quite rapid. Every individual with bipolar disorder has a unique pattern of mood cycles, combining depression and manic episodes, that is specific to that individual, but predictable once the pattern is identified. Effective treatment is available for bipolar disorder. Without treatment, marital breakups, job loss, alcohol and drug abuse, and suicide may result from the chronic, episodic mood swings. Comfortable, Affordable Lab Coats for the Health Care Professional

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mike_Yeager] Mike Yeager When a health care professional uses lab coats it conveys several different messages. First, lab coats give an appearance of professionalism. Its very important in the health care setting to be professional and new, clean lab coat portrays just that image. Second, lab coats are very functional because they have so many pockets. As silly as that seems, health care providers usually have many different tools and papers in their pockets and lab coats that have the pockets for these different items are beneficial and necessary. Styles of lab coats. When choosing from the many different lab coats its important to keep in mind the particular policies of the institution youre working at. Some require long or short lab coats, depending on your responsibilities in that facility. Comfort and practicality are both considerations youll need to decide on when choosing from the different styles of lab coats for your professional career. Quality, dependable Medical Equipment is an important component of every medical practice. It cant be overstated that while the practice of medicine is an art, Medical Equipment is the science behind the implementation of that art. Increasingly, patients are becoming more sophisticated in their understanding of the medical supplies and Medical Equipment that is being used to treat them. This means that a health care provider needs to know and understand not only how their equipment operates, but also have confidence that the Medical Equipment they use is of the highest quality. Your Medical Equipment needs to be reliable and of a high quality. The tools of your profession, whether its a stethoscope or a nebulizer, can now all be ordered online over the internet, generally at substantial savings. This means an easier approach to Medical Equipment management. Both the professional and home health consumer are now ordering many of their Medical Equipment and medical supplies right from their computer. Prices are low and the quality is excellent. Using Seminars To Market Your Business And Grow Sales

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Ron Finklestein A good seminar can be worth a fortune to the people who attend. But, as any good presenter knows, the investment in money, including travel expenses, is considerableso considerable value must be given in return to the attendees. I have attended and conducted hundreds of seminars, and noticed only a small number of attendees derive anywhere close to the benefit of what is possible. I have seen attendees from all over the world who are exposed to some powerful and life-changing tools, techniques, and information from real experts. Yet few derive even a small fraction of value from the golden tips being offered by the speakers. As both a presenter and attendee, I see this situation as a terrible waste. A good seminar can help bring your personal and business success to a whole new level, both for the presenter and the attendees. Creating a Great SeminarCreating a great a seminar is not as easy as it first may appear. The presenters must be sure to present their credentials in the best possible light without misrepresenting or misleading those credentials and accomplishments. As a presenter, if you dont walk the talk, the value of what is taught is questionable. To avoid wasting your time and money, as well as the attendees money, present what you know and know what you present. Seminars are great ways to allow people to see you in action and the attendees can self-select into what you teach and potentially become great clients. Dont think of your seminar attendees as customers. Think of them as clients. A customer is transaction-driven. I sell a product and the customer buys a product. There is no value provided other than buying a product. I am not interested in having customers. I believe I have a moral obligation to provide the best possible information to conference attendees while creating long-term relationships at the same time. Having clients implies a moral obligation to their welfare. As a presenter, make it easy to allow attendees to get the most out of the seminar or conference. Send them pre-work if that makes sense. Give them homework. Be sure to supply conference or seminar evaluations. You want to know what works and what doesnt. You must always have the best interest of your audience in mind. Be sure to put testimonials from past attendees on your web site. Make sure they are real. You can obtain testimonials by asking people who attended past seminars what they feel they got from the seminar and using comments from the conference evaluations. Preparation before the SeminarAs a presenter, I want to know that my message is getting through and the attendees are receiving significant value from the material. They deserve the very best you have to offer every time you speak. To the presenter: practice, practice, practice! I have seen too many presenters wing it and, believe me, you can tell. That is not fair to your audience. Have quality handouts and be clear in presenting your material. I find Toastmasters to be a great place to practice small segments of the talk that may be difficult for others to understand. The feedback you receive is invaluable. It is better to practice with a friendly audience that understands you are practicing then practice in front of a live audience who may not be as forgiving. The attendees than can make a good presenter great and a great presenter even greater. Before arriving at the seminar I would suggest you do the following: Write down some specific seminar goals. Search out some solid actionable ideas that will improve your business and yourself. Network. Introduce yourself to as many attendees and speakers as you can. Pass out your business card and request them from others. If the seminar or conference is long enough to have breaks, sit in a different seat after each break. You can meet some great associates and make life-long friends by networking. Take good notes. Keep a separate sheet with ideas you plan to implement after the event. Before you leave the event, narrow the number down to no more than five. Writing them down helps you remember them and reinforces the learning you expected to receive at the event. Ask questions both during the Q&A sessions as well as during the breaks. Do not limit your questions to just the speakers. Ask your fellow attendees questions as well. It will help you create dialogue with people you dont know, and sometimes you hear a different perspective that makes a confusing concept easier to understand. It is also a good opportunity to begin creating relationships with fellow attendees. If it is a longer program with multiple speakers, choose and focus on just one to three presenters whose work you’d like to further study and implement. Buy the books and/or recordings of those you choose for home study after the event. It will reinforce what you learn. When you return home, take action immediately. Don’t delay. Studies have shown that the longer you wait, the higher you likelihood of doing anything at all is reduced. Purchase the CDs or DVDs of the seminar you just attended if they are offered. Review them as soon as possible. You will be amazed that while you thought you heard 100 percent of the information, you probably got no more than 40 percent or so. You’ll feel like you are listening to a whole new seminar! To both the presenters and the attendees: be sure to follow up with the people you meet at these events. This follow-up can be the difference between success and failure. A well-chosen seminar is a great learning opportunity. But you can dramatically increase the value by using the ideas you learned and following up with the people you meet. When I first started conducting seminars, my biggest surprise was that most successful entrepreneurs in attendance are the very best students. They come with a clear goal in mind and they are looking for that big idea that can totally change their businesses and their lives. On the other end of the spectrum are the people who take no notes, and within a few days have forgotten most of what was presented. No one can retain but a small fraction of what is heard just once.I consider myself a perpetual student of business and of life. When I am speaking at a seminar, if my schedule allows, I attend each and every session. And often I discover new ideas and brand new ways of looking at things. A seminar can be one of life’s best experiences and learning opportunities. My advice is to attend as many as you possibly can. We cannot know all there is to know and many times we forget what we know. As a presenter, understand there are people in the audience who are more knowledgeable than you. Thats okay. Also understand that you are considered the expert and you need to provide value. Value to me is providing information they can use, both in business and in life, to make significant changes to help them along their path to more success. Dont take that responsibility lightly. The Neighborhood

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Anne Goodrich On a Sunday morning in November the snow started falling in my hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan. With our close proximity to Lake Michigan, we are also the beneficiaries of lake effect snow, which occurs when arctic air forms over the Great Lakes, picking up heat and moisture and depositing a bonus amount of snow over our region. Within two days Lake Michigan graced us with a record-breaking total of 24 inches of the white powdery stuff. My 11-year-old son had gone out early that morning to shovel, but by nightfall there was no sign that any dent had ever been made in the snow. With my weak back, and my older daughter sick with a cold, I decided that any more snow removal efforts could wait until morning. We were just finishing dinner when my son Carman heard a noise outside and opened the door to investigate. There at the bottom of our steps, in the freezing cold, was our neighbor from across the street just finishing up from shoveling our driveway, sidewalk and porch. I was barely done with my profuse thank yous to this young father when another neighbor walked over and began shoveling snow out from behind my car. Its rare that I do any baking, but coincidentally this day I had just happened to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I quickly sent my son out with two bags full of cookies for my kindhearted neighbors. Later, while resting on my couch, I had time to reflect, and was filled with a strong feeling of nostalgia. I was musing about how years ago neighbors used to always watch out for each other, bring casseroles when someone was sick, and take turns watching each others children. And then I realized that those days arent gone. There are still people helping out their neighbors, like my Shoveling Angels did. However, sometimes now our neighbors and friends are those we have met on the Internet, and there is some wonderful, miraculous help being given via this online world. The neighborhoods may have changed, but peoples hearts have not. We have just created a neighborhood unrestricted by sidewalks and street signs. Our friends and neighbors live in all different parts of this country and the world, and they do what neighbors have always done. Our inboxes have become our backyard fence, and we share our lives and laughter with each other, send our prayers, offer encouragement, and provide a virtual shoulder to lean on when needed. Ive learned that love and friendship can come across a computer cable just as easily as across a shaded street. I am blessed and thankful for all my neighbors the ones who live next door to me, and the ones online who live next door in my heart. Thrive With Your Business With Secured Business Loans

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=James_Taylor]James Taylor Business is the first choice for earning their living for a major part of people on this earth. Whenever they thought about doing something constructive (like expanding their business or opening a new business) first thing which comes to their mind is where to get the funds from. They spend most of the time in thinking about financing and unable to find funds, finally they drop their ideas. Besides finances, there are lot many things in business which you should think about like planning, management etc. And for finances you can rely on secured business loans. Secured business loans demands you to offer your home or any other property to back up the loan amount. This means that in case the loan amount is not paid or some default is made in payment, lender can get the possession of the collateral. But being secured, these loans offer a large number of benefits to the borrower such as: Low interest rates with smaller repayment installments. The interest rate is tax-free. Longer repayment period and larger amount to borrow. Flexible repayment terms and conditions for repayment. Easy availability in the market. Reduced paper work. Faster approvals (after the valuation of the property is done). Online option for faster and better search of lenders. Further negotiations can be made for interest rate and terms. Secured business loans can be used for any of the business purpose. It may include starting a business, expanding business, purchasing machinery and other assets, purchasing of office space, equipments, and furniture or for the most important thing in the business which is smooth and regular flow of capital etc. You can borrow from ₤50000 to ₤2000000 and even more in certain circumstances. The repayment period is between 3 to 25 years which is large enough to make the repayments without affecting the budget. So you may be wondering about the how you can apply for a secured business loan. One thing which you need to remember is to carry certain documents with you while filling an application form. These documents include proof of your business, business name and address, length of business, business profile. In case you are applying for loan for starting a new venture you need to mention what business you are planning to open and how will it be successful enough to repay the loan. BREAKING NEWS: Medicare Part D Prescription Plan Announced

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Charles_Donovan] Charles Donovan On September 30th, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid(CMS) announced the details of Medicare Part D Precription Plan. Many people who suffer from chronic depression are disabled and depend upon Medicare for healthcare. This looks like an excellent progam for the disabled. It will be very helpful in covering antidepressants and antipsychotic drugs, which are very expensive. Mark McClellan, the Administer of CMS, announced that organizations offering Medicare prescription drug coverage will cover the vast majority of products commonly used. He added that plans are covering 88% of drugs used by seniors or those on disability. More extensive information on formularies will be released during the first week of October. McClellan urged beneficiaries to concentrate on comparing plans based on their own preferences about premiums, deductibles and other plan design features - and not to focus on the “standard” benefit required by the Medicare Modernization Act. That is because competition among plan sponsors has yielded an abundance of plans available to most seniors, many of which “go beyond” the standard minimum. For example, potential enrollees in every state will be offered at least one plan with an annual deductible less than the $250 level in the standard benefit, and in many cases they can select a plan with no deductible. Many plans have flat drug copays rather than a percentage coinsurance. In addition, MA-PDs in all but nine states are offering some drug coverage through the Medicare drug benefit’s coverage gap, which otherwise would require beneficiaries to pay for drugs themselves after reaching a certain level of drug costs. I know that this information is critical to many of you. Obviously, those of you on Medicare will be receiving detailed information in the coming weeks. I hope that this quick reference to the overall details of the plan is helpful. For those who suffer from chronic or recurrent depression that does not respond to antidepresants, the U.S. Food Drug Administration(FDA)just approved the first ever long term treatment option for depression: vagus nerve stimulation. Have Hotel Rooms Become a Commodity?

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By John Shenton Nowadays, more travel is sold over the Internet than any other consumer product. In the United States Internet-booked rooms is the fastest-growing segment of hotel reservations in part because the Internet is a perfect medium for selling travel as it brings a vast network of suppliers and a widely dispersed customer pool together into a centralized market place. In fact, the travel marketplace is a global arena where millions of buyers (travel agents and the public) search for travel services and sellers (hotels, airlines, car rental companies, etc.) work together to exchange travel services on the world’s global distribution systems and the Internet distribution systems. However, any mention of the Internet as a distribution channel for travel needs to start with an understanding of the existing electronic distribution infrastructure, the Global Distribution System (GDS). The airline industry created the first GDS in the 1960s as a way to keep track of flight schedules, availability, and prices. The GDSs were actually among the first e-commerce companies in the world facilitating B2B electronic commerce as early as the mid 1970s, when SABRE (owned by American Airline) and Apollo (United) began installing their propriety internal reservations systems in travel agencies. The legacy of these GDSs, namely Amadeus, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan, today provide the backbone to the Internet travel distribution system and additionally there are thousands of private label Web sites like Expedia and Orbitz, as well as hundreds of tour operators, corporate booking portals, and regional convention coordinators. Yet although technology has given hoteliers so many ways to sell a room, it has become nearly impossible for a smaller hotel operator to understand, let alone intelligently manage the available channels for room sales. In fact if you are the average small hotel, many of these channels have an allotment of your rooms, and it is likely most are showing out of date rates and incorrect availability. Communicating with all of these channels in order to keep them current on your inventory and rates, requires in some cases, daily manual intervention with multiple faxes and phone calls. More importantly, verifying the accuracy of each channel’s current allotment and rate by the property is critical but rarely automated. Most times hotel operators do not know where or how their rooms are being sold or at what rate until the booking confirmation arrives. The tangle of reservation channels is not likely to be simplified soon. But with regard to the easy accessibility of hotel reservations on the Internet directly booked from hotel websites with their own integrated reservations systems, the system is working. Unfortunately even now, the overwhelming majority of small to medium sized hoteliers far from realizing and exploiting the Web’s true potential are still accepting bookings by telephone, form and fax from their websites or selling their inventory at reduced rates or high commissions via Web-proficient online intermediaries. As such, hoteliers, who want to broaden their rooms distribution intelligently, improve margins and maintain their brand identity in the face of on-line distributors that would turn hotel rooms into a lowest-price commodity should seriously consider integrating a real time reservations system into their own website for the ultimate benefit of their own hotel and visitors. After all, commodities tend to look and taste the same. Do visitors want a box they will rent if the price is right or a room experience they will wish to revisit again and again? Florida DUI Laws

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Josh Riverside DUI laws are defined by each state. These are mostly similar except for a few exceptions. Generally, drinking and driving is a very serious offence in most states and can affect a person considerably if he/she is convicted under DUI. Florida has some very strict DUI /DWI (Driving under influence/driving while intoxicated) laws. DUI implies impaired driving or driving with a high UBAL (unlawful blood alcohol level). Every person driving a motor vehicle gives an implied consent to take a chemical breath test when suspected of drunk driving by an official. There could be blood tests and urine tests also for determining the levels of alcohol in blood and urine. Specific tests are conducted if the person is involved in an accident or if suspected of vehicular homicide. Florida DUI law comes under DUI (Driving Under the Influence of Alcoholic Beverages, Chemical Substances or Controlled Substances). s. 316.193, F.S. DUI can be proved as an offense that is proved by impairment of normal faculties or unlawful blood/breath alcohol levels. Florida DUI law has various provisions and penalties relating to DUI crime. They are: the Fine Schedule (s. 316.193(2)(a)-(b), F.S), Community Service (s. 316.193 (6)(a), F.S.), Probation (s. 316.193 (5)(6), F.S.), Imprisonment (s. 316.193 (2)(a) 2, 4(b), (6)(j), F.S.), Impoundment of Immobilization of Vehicle (s. 316.193 (6), F.S.), Conditions for Release of Persons Arrested for DUI (s. 316.193 (9), F.S.), DUI Misdemeanor Conviction: (Accident Involving Property Damage or Personal Injury) (s. 316.193 (3), F.S.), DUI Felony Conviction: (Repeat Offenders or Accidents Involving Serious Bodily Injury) (s. 316.193 (2),(3) F.S.), Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide (s. 316.193 (3), F.S.), Driver License Revocation Periods for DUI (s. 322.271, F.S. and s. 322.28,F.S.), Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMV) Alcohol-Related Convictions/Disqualifications (s. 322.61, F.S.), Business Purposes Only/Employment Purposes Only Reinstatements (s. 322.271, F.S. and s. 322.28, F.S.), DUI School Requirements (s. 316.193 F.S., s. 322.271, F.S., s. 322.291, F.S.), Chemical or Physical Test Provisions (Implied Consent Law) (s. 316.1932, F.S., s. 316.1933, F.S., s. 316.1934, F.S, s. 316.1939, F.S), Adjudication and Sentencing (s. 316.656, F.S., s. 322.2615 F.S.), Driving While License Suspended or Revoked (s. 322.34, F.S.), Administrative Suspension of Persons Under the Age of 21 for Driving With an Alcohol Level .02 or Above (Section 322.26), Administrative Suspension Law (s. 322.2615, F.S., s. 316.193, F.S., s. 316.1932, F.S.), Administrative Disqualification Law, Review Hearings For Administrative Suspensions And Disqualifications (Sections s. 322.2615 and s. 322.64, F.S.) and provisions for business or employment reinstatement. Quilting Through History

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Clive Jenkins Quilting is an ancient activity, present in many cultures and each of these cultures influencing its development and particularity through time. The quilts became the expression of their maker’s feelings, the witness of historical events or happy moments in simple people’s lives. From its beginning until the present days, quilting had its ups and downs. Today, the development of the textiles industry and those of the machines and accessories used in making the quilts, the improved techniques of quilting have transformed this simple activity into a true art. The oldest quilt was comes from ancient Egypt and it consists in a clothing item found on the statue of an Egyptian pharaoh, who lived around the year 3400 before Jesus Christ. The technique used in quilting stitches was also found in decorative objects from Middle eve churches. It is considered that the Templar Knights themselves took over the idea of quilted garments from the Muslim soldiers, who used it to replace parts of their armour when the metal was not enough. In America, the ones who have brought and developed quilting were the Dutch and the English colonists, who made three laired clothes to protect them from cold and, from the remains of the fabrics they made bed coverings. This happened in the early 12th century and there are some written records about the quilting craft and the designed used in those times, but few samples were found because the fabrics were perishable. Though, a well-preserved sample is dated 15th century and you can observe here the parent of the quilting stitch represented by the coarse line and embroidery. The 17th century gives us the first bed covering the Levens Hall, made from imported Indian chintzes. The details and the exquisite craft design indicate it as an example of high quality quilting, not just an ordinary bed covering. When colonists brought the first patchwork-quilted products in America, they did not know how much this art would develop here. American women saw the great advantages of quilting, the functionality and the artistic experience of quilts and decided to expand and improve the scarce samples brought by the colonists. Therefore, they started to create interesting geometrical designs that became very popular in the 1880’s fairs and competitions. Long with the modern sawing techniques of the 20th century, the traditional craft of quilted bed coverings, table coverings or child comforts slightly decreased. Cheap and mass-produced garments and comforters replaced the original quilted bed coverings. The 1960’s brought the remerge of the quilting activity in the southern areas of the United States and the tradition was once again brought back to life and passed from one generation to another. It took almost 20 years, until 1980, to make the art of quilting be re-appreciated and practiced all over the country by passions women, even became a flowering business.
